Is Olaplex Worth It?
I had heard the hype and finally gave in and bought this expensive little pot of white gold. OLAPLEX is an at home bond builder for all types of hair that contains the same active ingredients that are found in salon professional products. OLAPLEX No.3 is not a "conditioning treatment" or "hair mask" like you buy at the drugstore or Sephora ... it work inside your hair to "cross-link single sulfur hydrogen bonds to create disulfide bonds." Yah, anyway, these bonds are what holds the protein structures in your hair together, so think of it cinching up the insides of your hair to make it smoother and stronger. (This is a really, un-biased good summary of the science and how this product got a cult following).
I use it before any home coloring, before sun-and-beach vacations (what are those, I don't know, I went on one once), and about once a month. It definitely leaves your hair very smooth and shiny, and for me with my fine hair ... it's preferable to a moisture mask which just seems to leave my hair heavier and flatter. If you have long/thick hair it is definitely an investment, but for me I've been using the same bottle for about 5 months, which is great and sad at the same time ; ) but at least my little locks look healthier!
